Speed, anyone?

No, I haven't gone Breaking Bad. I've yet to see a high-school lab that has the resourses that guy has. I'm talking about cars.

Everybody knows the speed limit. Most people speed. They use, as their justification, that "everybody else does it." But speed limits are there for a reason. We all know it.

We know if we get caught, there's a huge penalty. Yet... most of us do it anyway.

WHY?

(no, I didn't get caught speeding. I actually don't speed much. I'm such a bad driver that I try to keep my speed down. So, if it's 25, I'm going 30 -35, getting passed like crazy.)

(Oh, and I won't be getting comments too well. My email is down, so I apologize if you comment and I don't reply. I really do want to hear any thoughts.)

Where I live, NO ONE drives the speed limit in school zones. It drives me insane. Even my own husband. I get so frustrated by it.

If it is your child out on the street when some idiot is cruising 10 over the limit, how would you feel? Would you suddenly start raising your arms in anger about the lack of respect for speed zones?

I always ALWAYS drive the speed lmit around schools. It pisses people off here—most noticeable when the other driver tries to pass me in said zone. Anway, I don't understand why people cannot abide limits more. More specifically, limits where school kids play.

On other roads, where it's indicated lower but clearly it's a route, not a road, I'll do what most do. Because it's a route, not a road!

Interesting - I'd never heard a distinction between ROAD and ROUTE before. But I totally get it.

Yes, school zones are scary - 15 is what is posted here in PA. It's awful hard to do 15, but 15 is almost always avoiding badness. That's what it's all about!

I'm good about keeping to the limit myself. I piss off many speeders behind me, but I don't care. They can pass me if they don't like my speed or lack thereof.

cube, you're saying that, on a 55MPH road, you go 55? Even I don't do that, and I'm a snail.

Yep, I do. If the sign says '55' then I do '55'. If you don't like it, then drive on by.

we had a reporter here who did exactly that on the major highways during rush hour - went 55 in the 55 zones. It was a hot mess. Road rage is so prevalent that driving 55 is almost more dangerous than driving 60.

So, rather than Uber Snail, I would think that would make you Uber Brave.
